Transition Day

Today was a transition day. Still about 65 miles and 4,500 feet of climbing, but certainly not as difficult of a day as the previous, and kind of a rest before Mt. Ventoux tomorrow. We started the day rolling around a stunning lake (reservoir) and then through apple and pear orchards to a very old city, Sisteron.

B above the lake.
All of us above the lake.
B's knee was bothering her today, so a little extra help was called for. She refused at first, but by we got to the day's primary climb, she was ready.

After a wonderful descent from the climb, we regrouped for a quick coffee along the lake, then rolled on to our lunch stop along the river that empties from the lake and runs through our hotel town, Sisteron. The water was so warm, a lot of families were out enjoying the "beach".

After lunch, Thomas and I put in a little effort to make it to Sisteron a little early (so I could shop for loved ones at home and do some laundry). I must say, my room is smaller than my dorm. But, hey, what dorm has a view of ancient city walls, and a town square like this?

Some fun town art in the square.

The church on the town square.

A monument to all who died in the first World War from the town of Sisteron.

Getting into town early also meant a chance to explore a little and find some refreshments. Two of my favorite treats were found - Leffe from the tap and an assortment of fresh macaroons.

Dinner, per usual, was very good. We have had some tasty wine and food to date, but these were picture worthy.

Love to all at home. Good night.

  1. Another beautiful French town with interesting art. Looks like you have had unbelievable weather. Glad today was "easier" and I hope Becky gives her knee a rest so that she won't be hobbling when she gets off the plane in SF. Sydney and James will be excited to hear that you were shopping!
    Those desserts look yummy!

  2. How nice that today was a little easier to get a break before Ventoux. I love the group shots and of course all the pictures of the little town. It looks like you have had great weather, the skies are blue as can be. And you must have been a happy guy to have your Leffe after a long ride. Enjoy your last day on the bike!
