A Day Late!

Internet has been 1995 slow the last couple days, so it took a while to get these photos loaded up (about 9 hours actually), and some of the files just didn't make it. Hopefully tonight will be better, and I'll catch up on the posts. This was Saturday's warm up ride, and first day for the group to be all together. An easy day to stroll around the town, check into the new hotel, sort out the bikes, and grab dinner together.

The markets were thriving again today.

And, the old city was as lovely as ever.

The ride was a short climb up out of town, cutting across the peninsula that we are on, then dropping back down to our side of the island to an old fort that was built to look out for pirates, then back home with a nice tail wind to make the last few miles nice and easy.

It didn't take long before we started to come across the independence political graffiti. A lot more where that came from . . .

Here we are, finally on our bikes!

All of the photos of the pirate look out didn't come through, so you have to trust me on that one. We ended the day at a great little restaurant - literally a hole in the wall - with a bit of the dungeon feel to it. It was better than that description sounds. After the owner brought out a jug of his moonshine, apparently we got a little loud and offended the other patrons. But, the owner just liked that we could stomach his booze, so didn't care one bit.

The food was definitely more Italian than French.

Me wondering how I'm going to eat this much meat as an appetizer.

Fast forward to the desserts!

Clive checking out the moonshine. The owner just brought the entire jug out, said on the house, and walked off. I think it was more of a dare than anything else.

They must give out this stuff on a regular basis, though, or people tend to drink a little too much. When it takes a photo to remind people that they actually need to pee into the toilet rather than the floor. Nothing says class than this sticker:
